Common Questions
What age range do you work with?
I primarily work with teens (13+) and adults who are navigating identity formation, emotional regulation, neurodivergence, and the challenges of developing authentic relationships. My practice focuses especially on those experiencing burnout, perfectionism, and the exhaustion that comes from masking their true selves.
Do you diagnose ADHD or autism, or provide testing?
I can offer a clinical diagnosis, but I don't conduct formal ADHD or autism (ASD) assessment and testing, the structured evaluations some clients are hoping to find. I work with teens and adults who have already been diagnosed, are in the process of a formal evaluation, or strongly suspect ADHD or autism and want support making sense of it. I don't prescribe medication. If a formal assessment would help, I'm happy to point you toward providers who do that work.
How do you help neurodivergent clients?
My approach to supporting neurodivergent clients centers on helping them understand their unique brain wiring as a difference, not a deficit. I create a safe space where they can explore their authentic selves without masking, develop personalized coping strategies for sensory and emotional regulation, and build confidence in their natural strengths and abilities. We focus on practical tools for navigating work, school, relationships, and self-care while honoring their neurodivergent experience.
What methods do you use?
I integrate several evidence-based approaches tailored to each client's unique needs:
- Internal Family Systems (IFS): Helps clients understand their different internal "parts" and develop self-compassion
- Somatic Experiencing: Connects mind and body to release trauma and regulate emotions
- Experiential/Interpersonal: Uses real-time interactions and experiences to develop insight and new patterns
- Existential Counseling: Explores meaning, purpose, and authentic choices
- Person-Centered Therapy: Creates a genuine therapeutic relationship based on empathy and unconditional positive regard
These approaches are woven together based on your specific needs and comfort level.
What can I expect in session?
Your therapy experience is personalized, but generally includes:
- A comfortable, non-judgmental environment where you can speak freely
- A mix of talking therapy and experiential approaches (art, movement, mindfulness)
- Practical skills development for managing emotions and navigating challenges
- Fidgets and other comfort items that help with regulation and focus
- Regular check-ins about what's working and what needs adjustment
- Appropriate confidentiality (with safety exceptions)
The first few sessions focus on building trust and understanding your unique needs and goals, which shapes our work together.
Do you offer family or relationship support?
Yes, I understand that supporting a loved one, especially one who is neurodivergent or experiencing significant emotional challenges, can be complex. I offer consultation sessions where we can discuss strategies for supporting your family member at home, understanding their needs, and creating an environment where everyone can thrive. These sessions respect confidentiality while giving you the tools and understanding you need. For more comprehensive family work, I may also recommend occasional family sessions when appropriate.
